Rites of Passage

[My Concept]
Once in a while, an important event or realization happens that changes us forever. This change often comes with mixed feelings - fear and hope, loss and opportunity. This artwork tries to capture these feelings. The skulls is our fear for the future, our loss of the past. The hearts is our hope and excitement for the future, our optimism that all will go well, our love for ourselves. The bows blessedly tie all together. Overall, this work tries to communicate a natural and dynamic optimism about the future of people in times of change.

DJ event by FREAK GIRL at POPSCAPE got top traffic of  all the BURN2 areas at the time.

[Overview]
This is an art-building in online virtual world Second Life.
Size: 80W, 80D, 70H (meter)
Exhibited at PiRats Art Network Gallery (France), Oct 2011.

[Concept]
The world is in turmoil. People around the world are troubled by the unfortunate situations that they find themselves in. Some have chosen to fight, some have not. Some are winning, some are losing. For the most part, the status quo remains the same. For many, life is merciless.

This artwork blesses everyone and everything. Good and bad, fortunate and unfortunate, life and death. It endorses living without doubt or fear. It looks straight into the future, rising above death.

It exhibited during Jun 20 - July 2, 2011. (32m Width, 40m Height).

[About this building]
The Japanese Pop-style exhibit that have many statues of happy and cute figures of various looks (racial, etc.). It's about relationships of people from around the world without limits or handicaps.

[The concept]
People are often inhibited by numerous limits and handicaps, such as their appearance, gender, or age. In envisioning a better future, it makes sense to try to address this issue. In Second Life, people can push aside some of the obstacles that trouble them in real life and live, work, and develop relationships in a freer environment. It's the vision of a better future materialized in Second Life today. This is the magic of Second Life.

Decorama - Mikati Slade Artwork

[Description]
Societies shape people's identities. Modern societies have become more and more consumption-centric. As a result, modern identities have become consumption-centric too.

But the world is changing. Economic malaise and natural catastrophies, like those of Japan, are changing our societies. And, as societies change, so do our identities.

This Japanese-Pop style artwork attempts to show that the modern consumption society is changing and people's identities are shifting toward new directions.

BUDS - Artwork of Mikati Slade

[Description]
On March 11, 2011, a 9.0 magnitude earthquake struck Japan. The following tsunami devastasted the north eastern coast and damaged nuclear power plants. Radiation in the air and sea is threatening the world environment right now. This artwork is dedicated to all the victims.

BUDS shows two persons with buds on their heads using the Japanese 8-bit graphics style. It is meant to talk about new beginnings and possibilities and instill hope for the future.

Destruction and the loss of life can make us despair. However, every end is also a beginning. New buds grow. Even in the most difficult circumstances, it is possible to find hope and a positive outlook for the future. This is the message of this artwork. Thank you.

hello. hello. - Mikati Slade Artwork

[Description]
hello. hello. offers an uncritical look at our social constructs of reality.
It is about what we want to hear and see, as opposed to what we often hear and see.
It is about the most adorable human forms, unwavering smiles, and friendly attitudes.
It is about a spontaneity without doubt or hesitation.
A measure of these qualities is present in children.
hello. hello. reflects this.

It exhibit at Omega Art Gallery during Nov. 23, 2010 - Dec. 18, 2010 (SLT).

POP ATOMIC - Mikati Slade Artwork at BURN2 2010

BURN2 is biggest festival of art in online virtual world Second Life.
Too many artists having exhibitions in there and I built my artwork in there too.
The festival also have many kind of events.
[About exhibition "POP ATOMIC"]
Mikati Slade (Japan)
The ATOMIC bomb changed the Japanese people forever.
8-bit console games are a loving part of Japan's POP culture nowadays.
I felt that both the atomic bomb and the 8-bit consoles are powerful symbols of 20th century's civilization, at least as experienced by the Japanese people.
And, so, POP ATOMIC was born.
Enjoy it and lets discuss it together. Arigato^^

Emily Lang (Greece)
Mikati has been a long-time business partner and friend.
She talked to me about her concept for this year's Burn2 event.
I loved it and asked her if she needed any help.
Luckily she did and I contributed my part :)

Daisy Delight

Spring does not come yet, in japan, it will comes in few monthes, so I made spring on my pic ^o^
This time, I wanted to make taste like "Water Color Illustration" because I tought it will shows spring mood well^^ and also I wanted to make it without post-process... anyway, I started to work it!

This is whole view of "photo studio" for the pic. You can see some transparency boards... these will make water color effects ^^

Flower objects that I bought allowed to modify, so I had an idea to make "daisy cap" !
Then, I got help from my friend Emily to make title for the pic and she made great title^^
I am really loving the title "Daisy Delight" ^^

Spring Calling

Japan still cold winter now, so I had an idea to make above pic.
This pic shows a girl waiting for call from spring^^ of course, spring is a season so it does not use Cell Phone XD, but I wanted to make it personification^^
Also, I tried to make composition like japanese traditional painting with this pic, it have some unique forms, for example.. have not strong perspective, show depth with bottom line position of objects on pic, simplified lines to make strong suit for the screen, and etc...

Then I put a Cell Phone, Cell Phone and Kimono(japanese traditional dress) can be symbols of japanese culture both, and also it makes "mix" tradition and modern, so I thought it is "graphical" ^^

I made above pic without any post-process on graphics app, and this time, I wanted to avoid to show floor surface, so I used 100% alpha texture for the floor prim.

I also made gradient transparency prim for HUD.
This prim was made to give effect looks like old camera lens in real life^^
The texture have circle gradient around near edges, and it makes ppl to remember memories of Photography.

Happy New Year 2009!

Happy new year to all of SLers! ^.^
In japan, new year 3days are important days with tradition that called "Oshougatsu".
They decorate their houses, put traditional clothies, go to shirne, and eat baked rice cake ^^
They also had christmas events few days ago, so japanese old big media (TV, etc) change the mood from christmas to Oshougatsu quickly! @o@

Anyway, this tradition have unique style, so I thought it will fun if I make it at SL^^

I made above pic only at SL, yes, this is a snapshot without any works on graphics app.
I built this "photo studio" at a sandbox.

Letters made by reguler prims and I attached it to HUD when taking snapshot.
I wanted to make "japanese letters mood" with english alphabets, so I placed them from top to bottom and showed virtical lines, writing from top to bottom is japanese traditional style you know^^
And I put some degrees with the prim letters, so virtical parts of them became thick and looks like more japanese traditional mood^^

Merry Xmas from Outer Space

Merry Xmas to all of SLers! ^.^
Reciently, I am enojoying to make snapshots at SL, and Xmas is very good opportunity to make it i thought, so I made this pic ^^
This pic shows an astronaut girl in the space, and I tried to make letters that have laser beam effect ^^

This snapshot shows work in progress.
I was trying to make above pic without any re-touch work on graphics apps because I wanted to make it with concentrate for short term.
This limitation also makes simple and "live" feel, so I like the way^^

About letters, I made them with reguler prims.
You can see all of the fonts behind me on the pic^^
Then, I made some effects and wear it to HUD!
HUD seems to make Parallel projection, so it is good for graphics design also^^

Btw, my cute cloties from "-SHE- Christmas Lolita White".
I love the hood shape a lot :D

Memories of Burning Life

Biggest art festival in SL "Burning Life" made many memories for me.
It was really exciting festival :D Me and my friend Emily made large art building for it, and this is my first "Art work in Virtual World"!! That's future really !

I like the name "Burning Life" a lot, I think this is better name than Burning Man in real life ;) Because I think life is temporaly, so ppl must"burn" their life and having passion to creation.

The cute bear holds a Placard that says "You have a GREAT Burning Life build!":D
